New Article from May 2009 on Chris and his break dance classes!

Chris Torchia was first introduced to breakdancing (commonly known as "B-boying") while watching his cousin Ted dance on his living room floor. This sparked a new found interest in this unique and creative art form. Since then and for the past four years, Chris has been developing his talents in this dance as well as using it do connect with the community around him.

Chris is involved with HEADS UP in order make an impact on students lives. He desires to be a positive role model and mentor in the lives of kids, showing them that can achieve potential regardless of the influences that may surround them. They can be a part of the hip-hop culture in a positive way. Chris desires to communicate and meet young people on a level that they understand.

For the past three years Chris has instructed in several schools throughout Lancaster, as well as IU13 of Ephrata, and Elizabethtown High School. In addition, he has provided lessons for Contempra Dance Studio, as well as private lessons.

While progressing in this dance, Chris had to overcome several obstacles. One of these obstacles was the lack of training opportunities, as there are no formal classes available for this art locally which made it difficult to maintain one of the original elements of hip-hop from the mid 1970's. Coming from somewhat of a shy nature, this dance also helped Chris develop self-confidence.

A recent graduate of Lancaster Bible College, Chris has been active in ministry both locally and internationally, this includes teaching in Namibia for six weeks, as well as work in Kenya, Turkey, and Western Europe. He has also attained a Certificate in Bible studies at Word of Life Bible Institute in Southern Florida.

Along with co-members of his Bboy crew, Break Free Crew, Chris has performed at various regional venues, including performances at the Philadelphia Painted Bride Theater, Millersville University half-time shows, the Clipper Stadium, Warwick High School's New Line Review, In the Light Ministries, Lancaster Bible College, numerous churches as well as an album release concert for Phanatik from The Cross Movement.

Chris also enjoys spending time with his three brothers, growing in his relationship with God, and getting to know new people from different cultures. He also works with G-Force Studios, a live event sound company.
